Recruitment Career Tips – So You Want a Career in Recruitment?

You have packed away the books in a box and everything you own in an assortment of bags. It has been a great few years at Uni so what next? When you started you thought you wanted one thing and now you are not so sure. A friend has mentioned recruitment to you; in fact you have met a few recruitment consultants in the last few months and it has got you thinking.

Let’s slow down a minute, before you rush headlong into the recruitment arena it would be worth a stock check of; who you are, what you enjoy, and what you excel at. To have a successful career in recruitment you need a few important attributes.

1.Drive

Recruitment is rewarding at every level. Seeing people get the job of their dreams is an amazing experience. Getting paid for it is even better!

career-in-recruitment

This experience will happen on a consistent basis as long as you put in the work. Great jobs to recruit to and high calibre candidates to place don’t just drop in your lap you will need to put in the effort; role up your sleeves and be prepared to keep going, even when people say no.

2.Focus

The power of focus can work wonders in all areas of your life, both personal and professional. In a recruitment setting you will need to focus on areas that work and produce results on a consistent basis. Keep distractions at a minimum and keep your eyes on the vision of your company and your own personal vision about what you want to achieve.

focus

Take a leaf out of the experience of our own elite athletes from London 2012. They had their mind on one thing and one thing only. For you that might be that within six months of starting your role as a recruiter that you will consistently be placing 2++ candidates a month. That is possible by the way provided you place attention on our next suggestion.

3. The ability to receive direction and coaching.

This is a big one and where many new recruiters fall down. The truth is you won’t know it all when you join a recruitment company. You might have had some experience of ‘selling and influence’ in the past and not in this context.”

hitting billings

Your recruitment manager will be your best source of inspiration. Hang on their every word and follow what they say to the letter. The thing is, in recruitment many recruitment managers are still billing and at a high level. If they can do that and manage a team they are worth getting to know well and they have a brain that is well worth “picking”.

If you were nodding in agreement to any of what I have just said this could be a career for you because you have the fundamental values that will serve you well. So what next? Prepare yourself. Head over to Google and find out everything you can about recruitment and its many facets.

Approach a professional rec to rec company and ask their advice on what you could do. They are a friendly bunch and might even have clients that are looking for brand new recruiters its well worth asking.

What Are Recruitment To Recruitment Companies?

Recruitment to recruitment companies are the backbone of the busy and fast paced recruitment industry. Any company that wants to excel needs; the right employee that can deliver in their role; an individual that lives and breathes the company culture and vision and a guy or girl that is a model member of the team.

That is what recruiters strive to deliver for their clients and it is no different in the rec2rec industry. Recruitment to recruitment developed out of a need for recruitment companies to have the best recruiters in place.

rec-to-rec-companies

Recruitment works in two fundamental ways; either internal or external. This often depends on the size of the organization and their current capability and expertise in certain areas of the business. Often companies who are  in  a rapid growth phase or are entering a new market find themselves short of talent and need an injection of ideas and skills from outside and this is when using a recruitment company can be incredibly cost effective.

With new talent being sourced rapidly who then deliver a return on their recruitment fee within a matter of weeks; using the skills of a recruitment agency becomes the obvious choice.

So the question is; what does a recruitment company do when they need a new recruiter on the team? The answer is simple they also use the skills of a recruitment company. This is how the world of rec 2 rec was born. The world of recruitment is different to many industries.

Recruiters need to be skilled in many fields from super sales rep to coach to market researcher to motivator to influencer and many more hats you are more than aware of!…….. Nearly forgot this one, they also need the patience of a saint when a placement they have been working on, for months, does not convert and they miss their billings target!

Finding this unique breed of super star biller can be a challenge at the best of times and is best left in the hands of an expert.

That is where recruitment to recruitment companies come in. Like other recruitment agencies they often specialise or will have a number of ‘desks’ in their team that recruit into specific sectors. For instance if you are a recruitment agency that works in construction recruitment you will be looking for  a specific type of recruiter.

You could spend hours trying to find the right fit for the task in hand, your company and the team you already have in place.

bigstock_Office_Life_-_Happy_People_Hav_4098282

This is where rec2rec consultants excel. Using our example a rec to rec consultant, in this field, will know exactly the type of person you are looking for. In many cases they may have already been a recruiter in construction so they know; the skills, knowledge and attitude that are needed to be a big biller in this arena.

These skills that have been developed in the rec to rec world mean that the best person for the job can be found at speed. In the world of rec 2 rec most consultants have their own little black book of great recruiters and the good news is that as a result they are able to match up great candidates with dream companies.

Shameless plug coming up! At GSR2R that is exactly what we do. We match our wonderful clients with amazing talent. We have been doing this consistently for over 12 years and have places literally hundreds of candidates during that time.

James Caan's Top 3 Ways To Stay Focused On Getting That New Role

When we hear the name James Caan, the words ‘Dragon’s Den’, ‘millionaire’ and ‘investor’ springs to mind.  But, he actually tasted his first flavour of success as the founder of recruitment company, Alexander Mann during his early twenties.  He has since become one of UK’s leading recruiters and currently, amongst other things, heads the IOR’s expert panel.

In a fast paced industry like recruitment, it can be hard to stay focused on pursuing new career opportunities.  Here are James Caan’s top tips for staying focused so that you can make the most of the exciting opportunities that surround you.

Create a killer CV

As a recruiter, you deal with CV’s all the time so naturally, any recruiter looking at your CV will have high expectations.  Caan claims that the secret is to make it “interesting without giving too much away”.  You need to sell yourself in a way that makes your potential recruiter want to know more about you.

An opportunity to showcase your strengths is far more “deal-clinching” than an interview that simply confirms what an interviewer already knows about you.

It is all very well listing your skills and experience and in order to make your application relevant and to give your potential interviewer the confidence that you are right for the job; it is crucial that you include “how your skills will benefit the company, moreover how your skills will contribute to making the company more efficient and effective.” After all, as you well know, securing placements is about finding the right candidate for the job and the company.  Caan offers valuable advice when he says it’s all about “finding a need and filling it.”

Make the company need you, not just want you.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

An employer wants to know that you are not applying for a job because you want a ‘new job’.  They want to know that you want their job.  Doing your research is therefore an essential part of sealing the deal.  Caan advises to “Research into the company and use all the information you gather to provide the raw material for asking questions and raising discussion points. Take note of relevant market trends and the company’s competitors.”

Using the research to tailor answers is one dimension on how it should be used but as Caan says, it should also be used to ask questions that not only give you an insight into the company you are intending to work for but also, demonstrates a keen and proactive approach from your side.

Use social networking to your advantage

Given that a successful career in recruitment thrives on building valuable and lasting relationships, demonstrating your networking skills is something that not only helps you stay focused in your recruitment career but also creates a positive professional image of you.  This will inevitably work in your favour as today’s social world gives you access to more information that ever before.

Use social networking sites like Twitter and LinkedIn strategically and to your advantage.

James Caan makes a timely comment when he warns that you should “Remember, the company you are applying to may well be researching you, so ensure social networking sites and blogs reflect you in the best possible way”.

Recruitment is a dynamic and fast paced industry – that’s why you love it, right?  Given its fast pace it is therefore crucial to stay focused when you are seeking new opportunities. As one of UK’s leading recruiter’s with an impressive track record for success, James Caan’s wise words are definitely worthwhile taking into consideration!

Recruiter Tips – 3 Things Your Candidate Won't Tell You That You Need To Know

You are in a powerful and important position as a recruitment consultant. You might not always feel appreciated and yet you play a vital role in any countries economy!

Why? Because you match up candidates and clients that will hopefully start a long lasting and productive relationship. Everyone is happy. So much so that the candidate tells everyone about you and how good your recruitment company is and the client continues to use you for their placements and recommends you to other departments. Happy days! Before that happens there are some key things that you need to know that candidates won’t always tell you.

1. Whether they are a good fit

In order to keep billing consistently, you need to place the right candidate in the right position which requires more than box ticking and matching CVs.  Even if a candidate fits a job specification to a Tit doesn’t mean that they are perfect for the job.

Your candidate is at the interview for one reason – to get the job.  They will answer questions and use the ‘buzz words’ that are needed in order to look like the perfect fit for the job.  They won’t and arguably cannot tell you if they are a perfect fit for the company; you must use your expertise to ask questions and make professional judgments as to whether their personality, ethos and work ethic matches the culture of the company you are representing. In today’s social fuelled environment a value match between client and candidate is more important than ever.

2. The ‘how’ not the ‘why’

Business people with question mark on boards

Even if questions are designed to scratch below the surface, candidates often get away with superficial responses where they typically say how they did something instead of explaining why.  In order to create an accurate profile, you must extract the why.

“Why did you plan for that in this way instead of another way” instead of,“how did you plan for this situation”, gives you an idea of how they think and more importantly, an insight into their professional performance without watching them actually do the job. Don’t laugh! …and companies want individuals that are thinkers as well as just doers!

3. Scratch below the surface

If you are attracting high calibre candidates, they will come prepared to the interview having conducted prior research.  This means that they will demonstrate their knowledge of the company and market but how well do they really know the industry?

Any intelligent candidate will be able to create a fully informed and experienced impression through sweeping statements that are vaguely supported by evidence but, in order to ensure that your candidate really knows their stuff, it is important to ask them questions that test their application of knowledge and experience rather than, asking questions that showcase it.

woman_interviewing_stick_figure_12429

For example, “what industry trends do you predict in 6 months time” rather than “what is your opinion on the current market” will separate the wheat from the chaff because, it will highlight the candidates who can apply their professional insight into a forecast against the ones who are able to retain facts about current affairs.

To have a successful track record for placements, it is important to be able to conduct an interview that extracts more information than what a candidate’s CV includes.  You must use your intuition and professional judgment to make an accurate decision.  So remember, it is not always about what the candidate does say but about what the candidate doesn’t say.

5 Secret Reasons Why Ambitious Recruiters Use Rec To Rec Companies

If you are a recruitment consultant with ambition and drive; at some point you will want to change your recruitment company. The days of people staying with an organization for ten or fifteen years have changed. In the fast paced world of recruitment that is definitely the case. So when it comes to getting that next fabulous role what are you options?

Well, you can wait till the recruitment company of your dreams advertise. You could contact the company direct or you could use a recruitment agency in your own field to accelerate the whole process. Want to know which option has proven to work for ambitious recruitment consultants like you? Yep you guessed it, using a rec to rec company. Here are five reasons why recruiters consistently go to an expert recruitment to recruitment company to get the next role.

1. Know the best jobs first

Logical when you think about it. Any good recruitment consultant will know what is happening in their field and sector. You will know that from your own experience having someone, ‘in the know’ makes a huge difference to getting first shot at a key role. That leads on to this key fact most people forget.

2. They have a little black book

Little black books exist in every industry and especially recruitment. Rec to rec consultants are great networkers and immerse themselves totally in the industry; as a result they have lots of different contacts that you would never even know about and probably in the companies you would love to work for.

3. Know about companies you will have never heard of

Have you ever had a company brought to your awareness that you had never even heard about, that you suddenly realize is huge? The good news is when you are using a professional to help you get the next role you don’t have to. It is highly likely that the rec consultant you deal with will have a list of companies you had never even thought of that might have the perfect ‘desk’ just waiting for you.

4. Are the best match makers

The world of rec to rec is a close one. Once a recruitment company finds a great organization that can provide successful recruiters the ‘marriage’ tends to last. The downside is that if a rec agency makes a mistake that relationship can be ruined for a long time. The advantage for you is that rec to rec consultants are very skilled at matching the right candidate with the right company. You see their reputation is on the line and they can’t afford to make a mistake. For you that means if they recommend a company to you it is going to be a fit and a match, so all you have to do is wow them at interview!

5. Speed

Imagine the time it takes to do all this yourself. The truth is you can’t unless you have a few spare years. Recruitment moves fast and recruitment directors will make decisions quickly. Using an agency yourself logically speeds up the process for everyone. First step get in contact with your rec to rec agency of choice. Have a conversation about your aspirations and goals. Listen to their advice and then wait for the magic to happen as they go about what they are great at and find the next amazing roles for you.

That is exactly what we do at GSR2R. We are one of the UK’s most successful Rec to Rec companies because of the professional way we work. If you want to find out more give us a call. Currently we recruit into sectors ranging from; retail, digital, construction through to finance and pharma.

The 3 Telltale Signs You Need To Move To A New Recruitment Company

Throughout a career in recruitment, as well as most other industries, it is likely that a person will change jobs a few times. There can be lots of reasons for doing this, for example wanting to move into a certain niche or sector, wanting more money, wanting more responsibility or bigger clients, or being unhappy with the working culture. Sometimes, a change can simply offer you a new dose of enthusiasm and help you regain lost motivation.

If you have been working for your current recruitment company for a while, these are three signs that your best times there might be behind you, and it might be a good idea to start looking for your next opportunity:

1. Your Performance Has Plateaued or Is In Decline

You feel like you are working just as hard as ever, if not harder, yet your billings have plateaued.

This could be symptomatic or a few things. On one hand your recruitment company may happy where they are and are not dynamic enough to push and develop you. It could also be that you lack some of the energy and enthusiasm you used to have and despite putting in a lot of effort you aren’t working at your best.

It is worth noting that everyone has the odd bad month and that you shouldn’t view it as a sign that you need to take drastic action like looking for a new job. Instead what you need to do it take note about how often this is happening. If it is continuing for a prolonged period, despite you taking proactive action to improve things, then it might be time to consider moving to pastures new.

2. You Aren’t Getting The Support You Need To Progress

You want to move onwards and upwards in your recruitment career; whether it’s handling more prestigious clients or moving into management, but your company seems to be happy with you where you are for the foreseeable future.

Sometimes, your billing manager or your recruitment company as a whole might not be aware that you have aspirations to move up in the ranks. In this case, you need to make your intentions known and ask for the support you need, whether it is training, shadowing other team members, or simply being considered for a promotion.

In other cases, there may not be room for you further up in the food chain at this time, or they may view you as being more junior and further away from the job you want than you feel that you are. In that situation, the best route to more responsibility will usually be a new employer.

3. You’re Not Excited by Your Job Anymore

You used to get a real adrenaline rush when you did a deal, and feel excited when one of your candidates was at an interview, waiting to get their feedback. Now, you don’t feel the same buzz, or don’t feel it as often as you used to.

In any work, things that felt new and exciting at the start can become routine, but in recruitment, the wins are the best part of the job. If you aren’t feeling the same thrill when your candidates get those offers and you know you have matched up a great client with a great new employee (as well as hitting your billings target) then you have lost a big part of your motivation.

Changing things up by working in a new environment with new clients and new targets can help you reignite your passion for success.

If you can identify with these scenarios and you are ready to start looking for your next job in recruitment, then a positive first step is to talk over your needs with a good rec2rec agency. This can help you assess what you should be looking for in your next job, and help you find suitable vacancies you can apply for.

The reality is to work in recruitment to recruitment successfully consults need to know their ‘stuff’ on all levels. That includes understanding candidates and roles they will succeed in and the best companies and jobs on the market.

4 Ways To Know You Were Born To Be A Niche Recruiter

As a well known recruitment to recruitment company, consultants often come to us for advice about becoming a sector or niche specific consultant. The choice really is yours and it is well worth asking yourself some questions first to see if you are a fit and a match for this area. If you are, the world could well be your oyster. A focus on one area that you become the ‘go to’ desk for will bring many rewards and not just financial.

Recruiting in niche markets can offer a whole range of challenges and opportunities that you don’t get in more general recruitment roles. Niche recruiting puts you in the interesting and unique position of being an extension of the industry you recruit for, letting you be part of that world. Here are four ways to know that you are built to be a niche recruiter:

1. You Love Recruiting, but You Feel Connected to another Industry

You really enjoy the daily work of a recruitment consultant especially solving challenges that come your way and dealing with lots of different people. You can’t really see yourself ever wanting to do anything else. However, you are consciously or subconsciously drawn to another industry sector. Whether it is medicine, technology, law, engineering, hospitality or just about anything else, you read about it, talk about it, and know all about how it works. This is a big sign you should focus your recruitment career on that niche, and combine your interests!

2. You Know All About Your Industry, But Want to Do Something Different

stick_figure_direction_800_clr_2113

The opposite side of the coin is the scenario where you have been working in an industry for a long time and you are incredibly knowledgeable about it, but you want to do a different job. You have thought about recruitment yet you have never explored what was involved. You perhaps want a career where you get to engage with more people, or where you have the opportunity to use selling skills and earn commission, but you don’t want to feel that the time you spent in your current industry has been wasted.

This could be a sign that you could successfully make the move into niche recruitment for your old industry, because you have such a strong understanding of the kind of jobs and people there as well as a good network behind you.

3. You Find It Easy To Empathize With Other People’s Work Challenges

When you talk to friends, clients, or even strangers about their jobs, you find it really easy to put yourself in their place and understand the challenges facing them in their roles and industries.

A niche recruiter has to be able to know the business they recruit for inside out, and really identify with the type of people who would be able to meet the needs that business has. If you naturally empathize with other people when they talk about work that you have never actually done yourself, you’ll be able to think like a part of the niche industry you recruit in.The ability to connect like this with people is a real skill and one that is rewarded well in recruitment.

4. You Are Most Comfortable When You Know All the Details

Some people are good at ad libbing, or thinking at the high level where specifics and details aren’t important. If this isn’t you, and you feel most confident and comfortable when you know everything about what you are dealing with, then niche recruiting will suit you better than a broader recruitment role.

search-vacancy-gsr2r

Niche recruiters get to know the kind of roles they recruit for at a close level, and can talk to candidates and clients in detail about specific qualifications, skills and responsibilities relating to those roles with almost as much understanding as the candidates themselves will be expected to have.

If you have characteristics or traits like these and are thinking about a move into niche recruitment, whether from general recruitment or from a niche industry, then the best thing to do is talk to a good recruitment to recruitment agency that will be able to guide you down the road to your ideal job. At GSR2R we are specialists at recruiting into niche recruitment companies. Our experienced consultants are all seasoned pros in the field of rec2rec. Why Thought Leadership Is Important For Recruitment Consultants

If you had told me ten years ago I would be writing about, Thought Leadership and how to be an exceptional biller I would have thought you were barking mad!

Yet that is exactly what I am doing as wefocus on establishing ourselves as Thought Leaders in our own rec to rec industry. Confused? Wondering what the heck I am talking about? Let me explain.

The recruitment industry is changing. Like many other businesses, in the new economy, if you want to stand out from the noisy crowd you have to do just that; stand out.

The easiest way is to become the recognised expert in your field. As the famous marketing genius Seth Godin says we all crave ‘leadership’ from confident people that ‘know their stuff’. Logically then; demonstrating your expertise is a great way to get the ball rolling. Thought leadership is important in any environment and especially when it comes to B2B (business to business) ‘selling’ which; at its basic level is what recruiting is all about.

To put it an easy way; Thought Leadership is simply about becoming an authority on relevant topics that your audience needs answers to. In other words their problems and issues.  For instance let’s say you are a retail recruiter. Who do you want to stand out to and how? I would suggest both your candidates and clients.

group_leader_800_clr_11526

Demonstrating your knowledge of the current retail environment and what is happening brands you as an expert. Sharing ideas and suggestions on influence and personal branding makes you the friend of every nervous candidate.

Let me share an example for you of how this can work. One candidate I know who excels in this sector subscribes to all the latest retail industry blogs and newsletters. She even knows what the current retail sales training trends are. Do you think she has a thriving desk? Correct. She is seen as the go to person in that environment and over 60% of her candidate talent pool gets referred into her. By the way, she has achieved this in less than two years and all she started with was a bucket load of enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Stop press!

Just in case you have forgotten this one, clients seem to have a sixth sense about which consultants have access to the best candidates. So cultivating; Thought Leadership will make a difference for you at so many levels.

One of the reasons, Thought Leadership is the buzz word of the moment is because the internet makes it easy. Today’s world is all about engagement and speaking out. With social networking being an easy channel to use and with many recruitment consultants having access to a company blog page; it means that it doesn’t take much effort to stand out.

So how does it work? Well, it is all about giving away your knowledge; tweeting, commenting, getting in on the conversation and talking to people-without expecting an immediate return.

Do this consistently and you will start to become visible. Remember, though the movies might try and persuade us otherwise, there is no such thing as an overnight sensation. It could take months to establish yourself as the ‘go to’ person in your sector. Be patient because it is so worth the wait. Think of it like training for a marathon or learning a new skill. It will take time and the rewards are most certainly worth it.

Recruitment Consultant Tips – 3 Ways To Stand Out As A Recruiter In 2014

The recruitment market is growing again in the UK and the good news is that means more roles for recruiters and more candidates to place. Happy days! Well maybe.

With an upturn also comes the fact that candidates and clients can be discerning about which recruitment company and consultant they work with.

Like estate agents in the 80’s, recruitment consultants can have a bad reputation. This is usually due to lack of; thought, preparation, detail, mixed with a significant level of desperation. We all want to make placements and hit billings and not if the candidate and client aren’t a fit and a match for each other.

So how can you become the recruitment consultant of choice?

Well the good news is it’s much easier than most people appreciate. So here are some key parts of your role to really nail in 2014.

1. Give a damn

When Rhett Butler uttered those famous words in gone with the wind; ‘frankly my dear I don’t give a damn!” he probably didn’t appreciate the trend he would start. It might be trendy to have a ‘whatever’ attitude down the pub and not when you are working in a relationship business like recruitment.

People matter and if you are in recruitment for the long haul your candidates and clients have to experience that from you. If you only get a buzz when you place a candidate because of your placement fee you are in the wrong place!

The truth is people know if someone is truly ‘bothered’ about them. When your clients and candidates get this about you I guarantee you will never be short of placements to make and awesome candidates to fill them.

2. Know you stuff

People love experts. It makes them feel safe and in good hands. Demonstrate this to your candidates and clients and you will become the ‘go’ to person in your sector. The good news is that with a little application it is incredibly easy to do.

Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers talks about ‘10 000 hours to become supreme’; we are talking the Beatles and Bill Gates here. Trust me you don’t have to be at that level unless you really want to.

Instead get yourself a copy of Brian Tracy’s book; The Psychology of Achievement. He talks at length about starting to study for an hour a day and how rapidly that can take you to a different level when it comes to being an expert in your field.

3. Be organized

With today’s tech ‘stuff’ we all seem to possess, there is no excuse for not being organized. Yes we can all be bamboozled with the sheer volume of information we are exposed to. Yet know what is important. Keep in touch with candidates and clients regularly and when you say you will. This is guaranteed to bring you rewards and help you stand out from the crowd.

Did you know that one of the biggest gripes from candidates is that recruiters don’t keep in contact enough? As a breed we are a pretty hardy bunch; however our candidates might not be.

Imagine as a hot candidate you have been encouraged to move organizations and then as you start the process, suddenly the friendly recruiter you thought you had a connection with;doesn’t contact you. Suddenly you start to wonder if you are better staying put.

I am sure you can think of other attributes that will make you stand out? Why not add to the conversation and make a comment below.

Recruitment Consultant Tips – How To Be Happy At Work

I am an avid reader. I have all my favorite websites bookmarked and regularly surf on my ipad at night. Recently I found a huge amount of popular articles on how to be happy at work.

I am fascinated by this topic. Why? Because it’s never been an issue for me. I love what I do and I also understand that it might not be the same for others. Reading through the various suggestions and ideas I decided to create a top 5ways to be happy at work for recruiters. Ready to get going?

1. Love your job

I know it’s obvious and yet some people don’t. Let’s explore this more. If you don’t love your job there are likely to be a number of reasons. Listen up here because this is important.

If people are not your ‘thing’ you will never get what, ‘working in recruitment’ is all about. I agree it is a well-rewarded industry and yet it isn’t all about money. The foundation is related to making dreams come true. The might be corny, yet think about it?

If you don’t feel like punching the air because your candidate is ecstatic when they phone you to say; ‘I got it’ you need to check if you have a pulse!

2. Make sure you are working for the right company

This is a huge thing for many recruitment consultants. Admittedly any role has a settling in period and adapting to new systems and processes takes time. Hopefully you will have done your homework first before you moved to your new employer.

As a rec to rec company ourselves we ALWAYS make sure candidates and clients are a fit and a match at all levels! Now we know many people reading this have not worked with us yet so read on for some ideas.

The key thing here is values, or in plain English ‘what’s important to you’. If your values are different to your new recruitment companies then it isn’t going to work. A few well-placed questions and their answers at interview can be revealing.

For instance if; family, care and friendship are important to you and you are in a company where there is no socializing after work and asking for an hour off to see your Mum in hospital is frowned upon;  it is unlikely you will be a happy recruiter.

3. Get organized

There is nothing more stressful than being disorganized. Stress doesn’t generally sit well with happiness by the way. Batch your work and always have a plan for your week and you will find that your world becomes much calmer than you ever thought possible.

4. Avoid negativity

I often quote a famous saying that; ‘you can’t hang around negative people and expected to be positive!’ The truth is negative people wear you down and they are not fun to be around either. I am not saying that your work life should be all positive thinking and crazy practical jokes.

Just like we probably all agree that upbeat people, and their energy have a profound effect on our mood, it is the exact opposite when it comes to negative people; they don’t have a great effect. They sap energy, frustrate us and even worse; we end up feeling negative too!

5. Stretch yourself

Might sound counter intuitive and this can have a huge impact. Every recruiter will have activities that are not their favorite thing to do.  In the words of a famous sports brand; ‘just do it’. It is a well-documented fact that doing things outside our comfort zone expands us; it also gives us a high.

My own opinion is it makes us realize how good we can be. Do that consistently and your self-esteem and confidence will grow. As that happens I guarantee your happiness meter will soon be off the scale.

Ready to take action?
